It will present information about the changes to expect as a result of the fiscal 2009 Interim Year Adjustment. Each year the town analyzes the market sales from the prior year. From that analysis the tables in the computer aided mass appraisal system that are used to calculate property values are adjusted in order to bring the valuations to market value. »

The Patriots trailed, 1-0 early, but rallied to win the game. Katrina Ellis-Ferrara scored one goal and assisted on one. C-C is now 4-3-1 and 2-1-1 in the Dual County League Small School Division. »
Farmstand fundraising continuesSubmitted by RSS Bot on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 07:23.It will be farmers helping farmers Saturday, as more than 20 representatives from the New England farming community will come together at The Old Manse for a farmer’s market benefit for Verrill Farm. Farmers will roll in from western and southeastern Massachusetts and even New Hampshire, bringing with them bread, goat cheese, pumpkins, potatoes, carrots and cabbages. All proceeds will go toward the crew and staff at Verrill Farm, whose main farm stand was recently destroyed by fire. »
Verrill fire posed challengesSubmitted by RSS Bot on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 07:21.The recent fire on Wheeler Road that destroyed the main building at Verill Farm also shed light on some very real issues facing Concord firefighters. Verrill Farm is in an area of town not fully served by town water and the nearest hydrants were about 1,700 feet and 1,900 away. It required multiple trucks to connect to each hydrant, as a typical fire truck carries 1,200 feet of hose — two trucks are needed to effectively pull water more than 1,500 feet. Given the circumstances, said Concord Fire Chief Ken Willette, the Concord Fire Department did an excellent job. »
School Committee votes to strengthen stabilization fundSubmitted by RSS Bot on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 07:19.The Concord Public School Committee voted last week to allow $130,000 of surplus funds from the fiscal 2008 budget to be transferred into the existing Concord Public Schools Capital Needs Stabilization Fund. The amount, comprised of unspent capital outlay accounts in the fiscal 2008 operating budget and money left over from several other accounts, joins $487,000 from the sale of the Strawberry Hill Land, which was placed in the stabilization fund through previous actions, according to John Flaherty, deputy superintendent for finance and operations. »

EPA plans demolition of Starmet siteSubmitted by RSS Bot on Thu, 10/02/2008 - 07:04.The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided to demolish the contaminated buildings at the Starmet/Nuclear Metals Superfund site, a move supported by the state, town and the Citizens Research and Environmental Watch community group known as CREW. Demolishing the buildings “will remove the threat that hazardous substances could be released into the environment, due to incremental deterioration, fire, building collapse or vandalism at the site,” the EPA said late last week in a press release. »
