This free event will take place at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm St., Concord, MA.

Matthew McKenzie is American Studies Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of History at the University of Connecticut. McKenzie took his Ph.D. in Maritime History from the University of New Hampshire in 2003. While teaching Maritime Studies at the Sea Education Association, he sailed from Key West to Bermuda, Seattle to the Queen Charlotte Islands and San Francisco, and from Woods Hole to Georges Bank and the Scotian Shelf. His current project, Clearing the Coastline, explores perceived changes in nineteenth century southern New England’s inshore marine ecology; fishermen’s and scientists’ responses to those changes; and how these economic and ecological transformations helped create the modern tourist communities of the early 20th century. Call 978-318-7822 for weather-related cancellations.

The Friends of Minute Man National Park is hosting the lecture series.
