Overview

This calculator is a tool that can be used in conjunction with teaching an Earth and Space Science curriculum, or by itself as an activity. The questions asked to calculate a carbon footprint are not easily answered by students by themselves. To prepare them, ask the students to ask their parents for the past year’s heating and electric bills which will be used to calculate the most accurate footprint. See the sample lesson plan to potentially help teach your Science curriculum.

Other Calculator Features

Calculate--  Reduce-- Compare! Using the 'Group' feature. With this feature, different classes can compare or even compete their carbon savings against one another! It is a convienent way to see all the members' carbon footprints and savings. With this feature, you can organize your class footprint, calculate averages and learn what has the most impact on your carbon footprint! We encourage competition between classes, grades or even teachers to see who can reduce the most carbon in their life!
